The back cover of the June 2007 issue of Fine Woodworking featured the amazing joinery work of Kintaro Yazawa, a furniture maker in Japan who has managed to do what few woodworkers can claim to do -- invent a whole new language in woodworking joinery. Yazawa's letter tenons, paper-thin finger joints, and decorative dovetails, are clearly one of a kind.
It appears that our readers were as impressed as we were with Yazawa's innovations as demonstrated in this video by furniture maker Charlie Mastro who collaborated with Feister Dills Images to produce a quick overview of Mastro cutting and fitting a "Whale Tail" joint in the spirit of Yazawa's work.
In a Knots discussion, Mastro writes: "I was so inspired (by the article) that I dropped everything else I was doing and made a dovetailed stool for an art show here in Joseph."
We're glad you did, and thanks for sharing.
