Building a New-Fangled Workbench, Part 7
Time: 11:17
David R. Pruett, The Folding Rule Show
Portland, Oregon

With a name like The New-Fangled Workbench, it's hard to believe the innovative workbench designed by our very own John White would become an Internet phenomenon. John devised the workbench more than eight years ago while working as the manager of our shop here in Newtown, Conn. He recently revisited the bench online with a video tour.

Since then, woodworkers have been taking to the 'net with Sketch-Up plans, blogs, and video tutorials detailing how to build it. In the above video, David Pruett, host of the video podcast The Folding Rule Show, updates us on his progress building a variation of the New-Fangled workbench.

In a recent forum discussion about his bench, John noted: "I hate the name by the way and argued against it before the article came out, to no avail obviously. I'm open to suggestions for a new name but I suspect that the 'new fangled' name has become permanent."

Opting against the "John White Workbench" and the "White-Fangled Workbench," two suggestions from the forum, John ultimately supported this suggestion -- the 6-Clamp Workbench, which aptly describes the innovative vise system.

Are you building a New-Fangled Workbench? We'd love to hear about it. Post a comment below or upload photos to the Knots Forum.
