Glue and Let Dry: Part One
Time: 3:35
Submitted by: Tommy McDonald, The Rough Cut Show
Canton, Mass.

This mission, should you choose to accept it is to follow Tommy as he makes a trip to Newtown, Conn., to meet with the editors of Fine Woodworking. In this first installment (embedded above) Tommy and crew begin their adventure through the pouring rain as they drive the two-hour stretch along the Mass Pike and into Connecticut's woodworker country.

We can't wait to see what happens in the next two installments. Obviously we were present for most of the filming. Our question is what part of his trip don't we know about. Stay tuned...

P.S. This message will self destruct in two seconds...

A Step Stool Throw Down

Step Stool Project: Matching the Grain
Time: 14:32
Submitted by: Tommy McDonald, The Rough Cut Show
Canton, Mass.

We’re long overdue for an update on Tommy McDonald’s group project over at The Rough Cut Show. If you recall, Tommy posted a video here on GlueTube inviting viewers to join his build along to make a traditional shaker step stool. We’re happy to report that sawdust is being made across the Web. In fact, a handful of viewers have already completed the project and posted pictures of their finished step stools on the T-Chisel forum.

For those of you who haven't started or would rather join the build from the comfort of your armchair, check out the first few how-to videos that walk through the process of making the stool. Embedded above is a lesson (with many tangents) on how to select lumber and match the grain for a nice result. Tommy also recently posted a few tutorials on cutting the dovetails, which are available exclusively on the The Rough Cut Show Web site.

Build a Shaker Step Stool with T-Chisel

Shaker Step Stool Project Preview
Time: 0:47
Submitted by: Tommy MacDonald, The Rough Cut Show
Canton, Mass.

T-Chisel over at The Rough Cut Show is starting up a new group project where he'll virtually lead viewers through the creation of a classic Shaker Step Stool, similar to this one by Kelly Mehler. GlueTube wanted to get in on the action so we asked T-Chisel to produce a short video introduction for the GlueTube audience. He'll also be sending us clips from the build to feature on GlueTube over the next few months.

In return for his kind deeds, we're asking YOU, our faithful GlueTube viewers, to participate in the group project, and if you're really motivated, shoot some video of your progress so we can feature it here. This will be the second group project to come out of The Rough Cut Show (the first was a really fun "crazy leg table") and the whole concept is turning out to be a lot of fun. Have a question about how to get involved? Go here.

Now Playing: The Rough Cut Show

Episode 18: Bombe Series
Time: 7:24
Submitted by Tommy MacDonald, www.Bobvila.com/RoughCutShow
Canton, Mass.

It's about time we were able to feature an episode of The Rough Cut Show here on GlueTube. Hosted by professional furniture maker Thomas "T-Chisel" MacDonald and featured on Bob Vila's Web site, the video podcast series features high-end woodworking with a heavy dose of Beantown personality. Just last week, old episodes started showing up on Brightcove.tv (see embedded video above), which means more to come for GlueTube fans.

MacDonald is a graduate of the North Bennet Street School in Boston and was written up in Fine Woodworking magazine a few years back when one of the editors on our staff came across some of his ambitious reproductions, for which he is best known. In fact, most of the 77 episodes currently available on The Rough Cut Show Web site site feature MacDonald's progress building a Bombe chest, showing off his skills with reproduction furniture making. For those of you looking for a little diversity, he's also launched a new series called "Ask the Masters," which focus on other subjects. Check it out.
