How To Make an Arched-Top Keepsake Box (Part 1 of 2)
Time: 6:33
Submitted by: John Nixon, EagleLakeWoodworking.com
Wheatfield, New York

John Nixon, an industrious young woodworker who was one of the first podcaster we featured here on GlueTube, has put together another great series of videos that follows the process of building a fun woodworking project: this time a keepsake box. The first of the two-parter (embedded above) covers making and assembling the cocobolo dovetailed box.

Part two focuses on making the arched-top lid and installing the hardware, and features our favorite router-table circle-cutting jig and a beefy looking tablesaw tenoning jig.

Now Playing: The Rough Cut Show

Episode 18: Bombe Series
Time: 7:24
Submitted by Tommy MacDonald, www.Bobvila.com/RoughCutShow
Canton, Mass.

It's about time we were able to feature an episode of The Rough Cut Show here on GlueTube. Hosted by professional furniture maker Thomas "T-Chisel" MacDonald and featured on Bob Vila's Web site, the video podcast series features high-end woodworking with a heavy dose of Beantown personality. Just last week, old episodes started showing up on Brightcove.tv (see embedded video above), which means more to come for GlueTube fans.

MacDonald is a graduate of the North Bennet Street School in Boston and was written up in Fine Woodworking magazine a few years back when one of the editors on our staff came across some of his ambitious reproductions, for which he is best known. In fact, most of the 77 episodes currently available on The Rough Cut Show Web site site feature MacDonald's progress building a Bombe chest, showing off his skills with reproduction furniture making. For those of you looking for a little diversity, he's also launched a new series called "Ask the Masters," which focus on other subjects. Check it out.

Projects for Kids: Build a Folding Chair

Folding Chair: Woodworking For Kids
Time: 18:21
Submitted by: Craig Stevens, Woodworkers Resource
Knoxville, Tennessee

If you're looking for a fun weekend project that you can build with your kids, check out this episode from the Woodworkers Resource, a Web site and video podcast hosted by Knoxville woodworker Craig Stevens.

Stevens walks through the process of building a neat folding chair (actually it's more like a stool) with basic woodworking tools. The project is just the right skill level for the budding woodworker in your family. "After building this chair with my son, though, I realized that even if you don't have kids this project is so useful you're going to want to build one for yourself," Stevens wrote on his Web site.

We're a big fan of woodworking for kids and not just because it will help create the next-generation of Fine Woodworking readers. There are fewer and fewer woodworking programs these days in our schools and it's our responsibility to make sure the craft gets passed on.

Is your kid not interested in making a folding chair? Check out our kid-friendly project detailing how to make a skateboard.

Make a Table with Hand and Power Tools

Dave Moore Makes a Table (trailer)
Time: 1:04
Submitted by: David Moore
St. Louis, MO

We received an email today from furniture maker David Moore, a former student of Phil Lowe at the Furniture Institute of Massachusetts. Since graduating in June, Moore has been building custom furniture out of his hometown of St. Louis and has had the opportunity to build a number of pieces there, he says.

One such piece is featured in the above video posted on YouTube. Set to music and with some fun camera work, the video follows the construction process with highlights of handtool use, machining, inlay, and finishing.

Thanks Dave. It's a lot of fun to watch; Like MTV for the woodworking set.
