THIS JUST IN! We couldn't go home for the holiday weekend without posting this great video by our friend and "furnitologist" Neil Lamens, who had the opportunity to interview renowned furniture maker Wendell Castle at the recent Furniture Society conference. Neil is a what one might call a Wendell Castle super-fan -- many of his past episodes have paid tribute to the innovative studio furniture maker -- and as a result is able to reach deep into the brain of his interviewee.

One-Board Build Off: View and Vote

Round one of voting in the Fine Woodworking Furniture Build-Off Contest kicked off this week and the competition is tough. For those who hadn't heard, the editors kicked off a call for entries a few months back challenging readers to produce a compelling piece of furniture from 17 board feet of maple. You can visit our contest Web site to see photos and read about the top 24 entries. And if you haven't already, cast a vote for your favorite.

After casting our vote, GlueTube spent the afternoon scouring the Web to find any evidence of people's projects in progress. Lo and behold we came across two results. Michael Hacker maintained a photo journal of his build on his Web site Mikehacker.com and on LumberJocks.com, although he never posted a photo of the finished piece.

And, Neil over at Furnitology Productions produced a video detailing the Wendell Castle inspired piece he designed and built for the contest. Take a look:

Furniture Society Conference 2008, a preview

Neil, our GlueTube correspondent over at Furnitology Productions, sent us this weekend a great video profile he produced of David Ebner, who is a presenter this year at the Furniture Society Conference. Ebner is a contemporary of the Jere Osgood crowd and a Wendell Castle student having attended Rochester Institute of Technology during Wendell's tenure there. He also makes some amazing studio furniture, as you'll see in this video. There's some great imagery and words of wisdom in here. We especially love the spinning onion on the lathe.

Tag along with furniture maker and video podcaster Neil Lamens during his trip to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City. In this video, Lamens sits down for an interview with Erik Hansen, director of Carl Hansen & Son, a manufacturer of Danish modern furniture best known for producing the iconic designs of modern master Hans Wegner.

Hansen represents the third generation of the famed furniture company and uses his camera time to share some of the company's history and milestones.
