BUILD.

Design. Click. Build. has moved! Starting today, you can now find your favorite blog about using the free 3-D design software SketchUp for woodworking on the new and improved blog community on FineWoodworking.com.

For nearly two years our reigning experts, Tim Killen and Dave Richards, have delivered the most in-depth training on how to use SketchUp for designing hand-made furniture using video, illustrated tutorials, and community participation. Our new blog is designed to take that to a new level.

If you have subscribed to the Design. Click. Build. RSS feed, you will need to change your subscription to be alerted to new posts. If you follow the link above, you'll find the standard RSS feed as well as feeds for iGoogle, My Yahoo, and My AOL.

This blog will remain as an archive until we've moved all of our posts to the new platform, which could take a while :)

CutList Version 4.0

Big news!

The newest version of the CutList plugin for SketchUp has been released. I've only just had time to look over it quickly but it seems to be a very handy tool. It not only generates a cutlist but also some optional cutting diagrams that you can print out. This version seems to be a nice step forward in adding to the usefulness of SketchUp for woodworking projects. After I've had a little more time to work with the plugin, I'll write a bit of a tutorial for it. In the meantime, you can get the plugin at LumberJocks.

At this time it's still not a thing for the Mac users. I expect that will be coming, though.

Each week our esteemed panel of SketchUp experts will post video and illustrated tutorials about designing furniture parts, helpful hints and tips, and news and updates on the topic of computer-aided furniture design.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the format of blog, here's how they work:

1. Posts are displayed in chronological order with the newest at the top of the page. Recent posts are listed in the right column and a full archive of posts can be accessed by clicking the "Archive" link below the recent posts.

2. We've created a handful of categories to help you sort through the entire archive of posts. For example, clicking on the "SketchUp Tutorial" category link on the right will display only the posts filed under that category.

3. We encourage audience participation and welcome your questions, comments, and observations. To post a comment, click on the "Add a Comment" link below each blog entry or email us at fw@taunton.com.
